November 2009 |
Last week Ray
gave a very interesting talk on the history of canals. He
illustrated it with his own photographs, and with original material.
He traced the growth of the canals and described how they were
constructed. Many interesting features are still found today. With
their demise following competition from railways and lorries they
have now found a new life as a leisure facility. He finished his
talk by describing the Louth canal.
The revised deadline for getting your
dpi images to Avril for SOY is now Monday(16th). email
OK. Thanks for all those already received.
These will be judged together with
the transparencies by Phil Taylor on 18th.
The 18th also the deadline
for handing in your Print of the year entries. 6 max in total.
Categories - Pictorial, record, natural history, portrait,
landscape.
In conjunction with the Lincolnshire
Film Archive we are presenting a selection of local historic films
in the Louth Conoco Room, Northgate , Louth at 7.30pm on Wednesday
25th November 2009.
The main feature will be a film
newsreel made by the Louth Photographic and Cine Society in 1966 of
the Kennedy Memorial Test – Louth to Skegness Walk , this includes
interviews with competitors and a high speed run along the entire
route.
Other films will include ~
“Humber Paddle Steamers” ~ Footage of
the coal fired Paddle Steamers “Lincoln Castle” and “Wingfield
Castle” in the 1970s which operated the ferry service across the
Humber between New Holland before the completion of the Humber
Bridge , this also features as being under construction at the time.
“Five Miles Out Into The Humber” -
The construction of the Tetney Monobouy floating oil terminal with
conveyed crude oil by sea bed and overland pipe to the Killingholme
Refinery in 1969.
“Days out on Cleethorpes Beach ” in
1951 , a compilation of family footage taken during regular visits
to the beach, full of social and historical interest.
“Boy Scouts“, the 3rd Clee troop at
it’s Springfield campsite Scartho in 1948 , featuring the many scout
camp traditions now so long obsolete and some politically incorrect.
Please support this event and
encourage others to attend what has always been a nostalgic evening.

volunteered to organise our Christmas dinner again this year.-
